LOCAL CRYOTHERAPY FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT TREATMENT

Targeted Cold Therapy. Lasting Pain Relief.

A clinically assessed, targeted cryotherapy treatment designed to reduce inflammation, ease pain, and support faster recovery — without the need for lengthy ice treatments.

Your Treatment Journey

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Every chronic pain management treatment at The Wellness People begins with a proper clinical assessment — we never administer cryotherapy without first understanding your condition, history, and goals.

01

Initial Consultation (15 min)

Discuss your pain history, symptoms, lifestyle, and treatment goals with our specialist. We assess whether cryotherapy is the right approach for your specific condition and identify any contraindications.

02

Treatment Assessment

We identify the target area(s) and determine the appropriate treatment protocol — including temperature, duration, and the number of sessions recommended to achieve meaningful relief.

03

Cryotherapy Session (10–15 min)

Targeted cold therapy is applied to the affected area using our specialist device, reaching temperatures of up to -10°C. Most patients experience immediate relief from swelling and pain during the session.

04

Aftercare & Session Plan

We advise on aftercare, activity levels, and a recommended session schedule. Most patients see the best results from a series of treatments — we tailor a plan to your condition and response.

The Mechanism: Inside Out and Outside In

Localised cryotherapy treats problem areas both from the ‘inside out’ and ‘outside in’ by targeting the inflammatory processes that sustain pain and prevent healing.

When cold is applied to the affected area, it temporarily reduces blood flow — significantly decreasing inflammation and swelling, particularly around joints and tendons. It also temporarily suppresses nerve activity in the treated area, providing direct pain relief.

Crucially, after the cold stimulus is removed, the body responds with a powerful healing rebound — blood rushes back to the area at a higher oxygenation rate, accelerating tissue repair and reducing inflammatory markers. This process, known as cryostimulation, produces sustained therapeutic benefits that far outlast the session itself.

Why is this better than icing? A standard ice pack reaches approximately 0°C and must be applied for 20–30 minutes with diminishing returns. Our device targets -10°C in a focused treatment area, delivering a more precise and significantly more effective stimulus in a fraction of the time.

Conditions We Treat

Painful Conditions Addressed by Local Cryotherapy

Our cryotherapy pain management service is appropriate for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. The following are among the most common presentations we treat.

Arthritis & Gout

Chronic joint inflammation from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout causes persistent pain and stiffness. Local cryotherapy targets the affected joint directly, reducing inflammation and providing relief from both daily discomfort and acute flare-ups.

Back Pain & Spinal Discomfort

Whether caused by muscular tension, disc problems, or chronic inflammation, back pain is one of the most common presentations we treat. Targeted cryotherapy to the lumbar or cervical spine reduces nerve sensitivity and muscular spasm.

Sports Injuries & Post-Workout Recovery

Sprains, ligament tears, tendonitis, bursitis, and overuse injuries all respond well to localised cold therapy. Cryotherapy accelerates recovery between training sessions and reduces downtime from injury, making it popular with active patients and athletes.

Post-Surgical Pain & Swelling

Following surgical procedures, localised cryotherapy reduces post-operative inflammation and swelling — facilitating earlier, more effective physiotherapy and returning you to full function more quickly.

Acute Pain & Acute Swelling

For sudden injuries including sprains, strains, and fractures (in the recovery phase), cryotherapy provides immediate anti-inflammatory intervention that reduces swelling and begins the healing process faster than passive rest alone.

Facial Pain & Migraines

Localised cryotherapy can be applied to the facial area and neck to address migraine-related discomfort and inflammatory skin conditions. The targeted application reduces local nerve activity and inflammatory response.

Pain Management

LOCAL CRYOTHERAPY

Painful Conditions That Can Be Addressed Include:

  • Acute pain and acute swelling (sprains, fractures and, ligament tears)
  • Post workout aches and pains (aids recovery)
  • Post surgical pain and swelling (aids recovery and facilitates intense physiotherapy)
  • Chronic pain (arthritis and , gout)
  • Face pain (migraines/inflammatory skin conditions)

Localised cryotherapy is used to treat problem areas both from the “inside out” as well as from the “outside in” by reducing the inflammatory reactions that produce sustained pain and prevent healing.

It works by reducing blood flow to the affected area, which can significantly reduce inflammation and swelling that causes pain, especially around a joint or a tendon. It can temporarily reduce nerve activity, which also helps relieve pain.

A temperature  of up to -10C can be reached by our device, and therefore local area treatment only needs to be conducted for 10-15 minutes, with benefits far exceeding many hours of icing.
